IMG_5468A smoothie bowl the color of the ocean? What on earth? Well it took me about three weeks to get my hands on this crazy ingredient just to make a dang blue smoothie. You might say I have a passion for making food into art. The process began with a search on Amazon for “blue spirulina.” An order was made and what I thought was blue spirulina was shipped to my cabin in the middle of the Northwoods. The package was lost and multiple calls were made to the Amazon shipping department and the local USPS.

At last, the package arrived. I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I gazed into the depths of the jar and the powder was unfortunately green. Rats! When I got back from Chicago, I went to all of my favorite spots for healthy foods searching for this magical powder that made your smoothies acquire this sea-like shade of blue. I asked Real Good Juice Co. and the Chicago Health Foods how the heck they got this blue spirulina. “Blue Majik by E3 Live” was the solution to my problem. I stopped by my aunts and she had some capsules of this Blue Majik. I borrowed two as I waited for my newly ordered bottle to arrive. I whipped up a smoothie bowl with some blueberries in it and it turned purple! I couldn’t believe I didn’t use more neutral colored fruits but just had to laugh. At least it led me to this story. Finally, this sparkling blue powder (yes, it actually sparkles) arrived at my doorstep and here you have it. The long awaited mermaid bowl!
