December 2013: Toys-For-Tots
As a child, my grandmother took my cousins, sisters, and me down to the city of Chicago to donate gifts to children who were less fortunate than others. These kids were extremely grateful for the single toy they received each year as they greeted us with joy. We had a man dress up as Santa Claus and give the children each a toy. I loved seeing a smile on their face year after year. When we no longer went to the city and dropped off gifts and Ridge’s Stitches and the holidays came around, I wanted to find a way to bring this holiday cheer back to these children. For the month of December, we decided to donate a portion of our sales to Toys-For-Tots.
The mission of the “U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.” We choose a few holiday prints in an effort to give back to the foundation.
